Specialist Programs

The Arts

Performing Arts

Performing Arts at MGPS provides students with opportunities to explore creativity, expression, and storytelling through Drama, Dance, and Music. Students develop critical thinking, imagination, reasoning, problem-solving, confidence, and self-expression.

Dance: Students express themselves through movement while developing coordination, creativity, and teamwork. They explore music, action songs, choreography, and the connection of dance to culture, identity, and storytelling.

Drama: Students explore performance, storytelling, and audience communication through improvisation, role-play, and interpreting texts and experiences. They develop skills in facial expression, movement, voice, and characterisation.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts encourages students to explore creativity, express ideas, and make meaning through art, craft, and design.

  • Students work with a variety of materials, techniques, and processes to communicate ideas and develop personal style.
  • Across all year levels, students: explore ideas, develop practical skills, present work to communicate meaning, and respond to artworks from diverse cultures and perspectives.
  • Students build the ability to reflect on their own work and others’, fostering appreciation for the arts in society.
Physical Education and Health

Our inclusive Physical Education and Health program promotes motor skills, fitness, teamwork, resilience, and wellbeing.

You can support your child by:

  • Students participate in a variety of sports, games, and fitness activities including team sports, athletics, gymnastics, and recreational challenges.
  • Lessons focus on skill development, healthy lifestyle habits, personal safety, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Students build confidence, resilience, leadership, and social skills while accessing our gymnasium, oval, and court spaces.

Science

Science at MGPS fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through hands-on, inquiry-based investigations.

  • Students explore Biological, Chemical, Earth and Space, and Physical Sciences.
  • They learn to observe, predict, experiment, analyse, and draw conclusions.
  • Lessons are designed to integrate technology, design, and real-world contexts, encouraging students to apply science to everyday life.
  • Students develop an appreciation for the natural environment, sustainability, and the impact of science on society
Italian

Italian is our Language Other Than English (LOTE) program. Students develop communication skills, cultural understanding, and global awareness through interactive learning.

  • Lessons include songs, games, role-plays, storytelling, and speaking exercises.
  • Students explore Italian culture, traditions, festivals, and everyday language, connecting language learning with real-world contexts.
  • The program fosters collaboration, creativity, confidence, and intercultural understanding, encouraging students to appreciate diversity and develop empathy.
